ETBU Theatre opens season with Doubt: A Parable

East Texas Baptist University’s Department of Music and Theatre Arts opened its 2022-2023 season with a production of Doubt: A Parable, written by John Patrick Shanley, from September 30 through October 2. The show, centered around mature themes of truth and hardship, was directed by ETBU Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts Andrew Wilson.

ETBU Theatre continues spring production season with Our Town

East Texas Baptist University’s Department of Music and Theatre Arts continued its’ strong slate of performances April 7-10 with a stirring rendition of Our Town, written by Thornton Wilder. The thought-provoking story follows unassuming characters in the fictitious town Grover’s Corner, New Hampshire. The show was directed by Associate Professor of Theatre Arts John Dement.

Footloose headlines ETBU Spring 2022 theatre season

The ETBU Department of Music and Theatre Arts kicked off the spring theatre season with a production of Footloose, the lively story of a high school troublemaker’s quest to teach a small town how to dance, live on stage February 24 - 27 at Memorial City Hall. Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts Natalie Wilson made her directorial and chorographical debut at ETBU, and the cast admired her strengths of vision and excitement.

East Texas Baptist University Theatre showcases graduate preparedness

The ETBU School of Communication and Performing Arts took the stage November 18-19 for their productions of Sylvia by A.R. Gurney and Any Body for Tea? by C.B. Gilford. Two ETBU graduating seniors directed the shows to simulate Texas UIL One Act Play competitions and prepare them for their future careers.

ETBU Theatre opens season with "Pinocchio Commedia"

The East Texas Baptist University Department of Theatre Arts concluded its production of Johnny Simon’s Pinocchio Commedia last weekend after a successful four-show run from Thursday, September 30 to Sunday, October 3. The performances, directed by Associate Professor of Theatre Arts John Dement, blended the rich comic style of Italian comic theatre with the fairy tale exploits of everyone’s favorite puppet-brought-to-life, Pinocchio.
