East Texas Baptist University is bustling with activity after the 2019-2020 academic school year began with August Mini-Term classes and the start of fall term classes on Monday, August 19. The students’ return to campus was marked by a special chapel service and a host of activities to kick off an exciting semester.

East Texas Baptist University welcomed new students and their families to campus for Tiger Camp, ETBU’s Welcome Week, on Wednesday, August 14 and returning students on Saturday, August 17. Faculty, staff, and Tiger athletic teams assembled outside residence halls across campus in the early morning to help new students move in. Each volunteer wore a shirt that said, “Fan the Flame,” emphasizing ETBU’s commitment to mentorship and spiritual growth.

Spreading the Gospel through the universal language of sports, the East Texas Baptist University Tiger Spirit Teams (Cheer and Pom), and Acrobatics and Tumbling traveled to Japan from Thursday, August 1 through Saturday, August 10 as part of the Tiger Athletic Mission Experience (TAME) program.

High school and college students, along with their families, assembled in ETBU’s Ornelas Student Center last weekend for the 2019 Hispanic Education Fair, hosted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas’ Hispanic Education Initiative. At the fair, participants from the community attended exhibits hosted by East Texas Baptist University, Baptist University of the Americas, and Dallas Baptist University, learned from speakers at various workshops, and rallied as a community for Hispanic Education.

A crowd gathered at the Marshall Grand last week to celebrate and honor the generosity of a community and distinguish six local students who seek to impact the medical industry through a future career in nursing. Three East Texas Baptist University students were presented with the Polly Cargill Nursing Scholarship on behalf of the Cargill family and CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Foundation. ETBU’s Joshua Hartley, Colby Simmons, and Stacie Simmons received the scholarship during the reception held at the newly opened Marshall Grand.
